All homeowners have access to Lyalta Community Club facilities including the Playground and Recreation area located just a brief walk across Range Road 264. Pet owners can enjoy a pleasant stroll to our Dog Park located next to the Community Club via the W.I.D. Canal, which wends its way elegantly through our community.
The LOM is always looking to expand our amenities, and in partnership with Lyalta Community Club we have a suite of excellent indoor and outdoor facilities that will soon be expanded even further – See Future Plans below. Adjacent to LOM, we are fortunate to have a resort style golf course in our back yards, providing 18 enjoyable holes and long Rocky Mountain vistas.

The Lyalta Community Club grounds are well maintained, and summer weekends are filled with the sounds of bats hitting balls, the clink of horseshoes hitting pegs, and children’s laughter while they climb or swing in the playground. The recreational area at the Lyalta Community Club boasts a basketball court, horseshoe pits, grass volleyball, a playground, and two baseball diamonds! The recently completed walking and bike path along the W.I.D. Canal with controlled crossing across RR264 makes these facilities easy and safe to access. The Lakes of Muirfield was once known as a gated community. When we terminated the Bare Land Condominium Corporations in 2021(see History), Wheatland County took full responsibility for the repair and maintenance of our roads and infrastructure, and as a result all of our roads became public throughfares. Gates are not allowed on public roads.
It was a small price to pay. Sadly, over time, it became apparent the front gate’s deterrence factor was low and easily circumvented by those with nefarious intentions. The gate was not only nearing its end of life, but had no battery back-up, so if closed during a power outage, had to be manually opened. Emergencies and power outages go hand in hand, and often at night. The danger of a responder being delayed by a powerless gate was a life-threatening nightmare. It was not compatible with a back-up add-on, and replacement costs were quoted at several tens of thousands of dollars.
At the 2022 AGM, when presented with the facts above, the vast majority of residents voted to install a video surveillance system based on an area CPTED assessment (completed in 2023) to identify our security soft spots. In Fall of 2024, an integrated system installation was completed (at less than a third of the price a new gate would cost) that records the front gate, the north and east gates, and the RV Lot. The LCC grounds are also recorded.
Local Law Enforcement has assured the HOA this system will be more effective as a deterrent.

Based on surveys conducted in 2021 by both Wheatland County (they surveyed the most popular amenities currently being used by Wheatland residents) and Lakes of Muirfield HOA, (we asked residents what amenities they wanted available in our community) the HOA Amenities & Recreation Committee were given a list of needs and have been working diligently to make it happen.
After much back and forth with the County trying to secure land in the community, which wasn’t going to happen, (see History for more details on those trials and tribulations), we have purchased, with the County’s aid and support, 7.5 acres adjacent to the current LCC acreage. This will give us our much-needed recreation space.
Since 2021 and the successful termination of the Bare Land Condos, (see History again), and no longer needing to build a vast reserve fund to insure against a broken water main and/or new road or sidewalk surface, or other disaster, we have been saving funds to build the amenities our residents wanted us to, and we desperately need as a growing, young community.
With land available, we have submitted grant requests with the Province of Alberta, and Wheatland County to help us offset a major portion of these new amenity costs. We will hear back on the major request by early 2025.
If we are successful, work will commence in early 2025. Our plans include a four-season sport court with lights for hockey on natural ice during the winter, and pickleball, tennis and lacrosse during the warmer seasons. A four-car garage that will house maintenance and ice equipment, washrooms, and a heated change room. More family BBQ/Picnic areas. Upgraded playground equipment. A separate and expanded Basketball, volley wall sport court. A communal firepit. Expanded car park and a football pitch (soccer field) is also in the plans. No existing amenities will be removed.

Where do I obtain a copy of the bylaws?
The Lakes of Muirfield is under the authority of Wheatland County bylaws. They may be found here. For regulations outside the purview of Wheatland County, our Architectural Controls are in place and may be downloaded here.
HISTORY
Nearly two decades have passed since the approved Entitlement Process allowed for the phased development of more than 700 residences, a resort style golf course, and a small commercial component, north of the existing hamlet of Lyalta in 2005. In that time, the Lakes of Muirfield has faced more than it’s share of challenges, but we can now boast a vibrant, growing, and beautiful community that was well worth it. Want to learn more? Acceptable styles are a blend of Prairie Gothic and Scottish Tudor. Please contact our Design Consultants, Arcadis (here) before new home permit applications are forwarded to Wheatland County.
Existing Homes
Once a home is built and occupied, our Architectural Controls provide general guidelines for landscaping (to be completed, depending on seasonality, within six to twelve months of occupancy) and adequate property upkeep. All exterior new or renovation projects must be approved prior to start by submitting the Architectural Renovation Request Form to the HOA. Download here. No approvals are required for interior work.
