Hi Everyone!

Small update to the Rink:

The volunteers that have worked hard in the fall and winter to get ice in for the holidays have noticed there was an unexpected flood on the weekend.  Due to this flood, the ice is not skateable and extreme care should be taken if you choose to use the rink.  There are many ridges, lumps and pebbling all over.  This is very unfortunate and unauthorized and a minor setback (we hope).

Please keep in mind that in order to flood we need to use the fire hydrant for sufficient amount of water supply (we are close to 200 m3 to date).  To use the hydrant we need the county on site to operate it and keep track of the amount of water we use.  As of late, the County has been extremely busy and shorthanded dealing with all villages and hamlets in Wheatland, so to organize a flood has been a challenge.  We are working to address this best we can.

Another point, the Muirfield HOA is financially responsible for the insurance of the rink (even though on County land), the water to flood and the diesel fuel for the Light Towers.  The Recreation Society has been gracious enough to assist with other minor costs, including repairs and maintenance on the Light Towers, Tractor Sweeper and rink boards to name a few.

We can appreciate that some may expect NHL ice standards and the Light Towers to be on every night but that is not reasonable or feasible.  The rink is run and maintained by some wonderful volunteers who have put in over 50+ hours to date this season alone.  We ask for some patience as we try and work through some gaps and issues.  Your HOA is hard at work to secure a proper site for a permanent rink among other recreation amenities.

If you wish to lend a hand or help out, please reach out to so that we don’t end up with another issue that maybe cannot get resolved and we will be forced to close the rink.  We want to work together to give all residents of Wheatland a place to enjoy over the winter.  A massive thank you to all those that have helped, it doesn’t go unnoticed.

Sincerely,

Lakes of Muirfield HOA
